Jonathan Oberlander is Professor and Chair of Social Medicine in the School of Medicine and Professor of Health Policy & Management in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also serves as editor of the Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law.
Dr. Oberlander’s research focuses on health care politics and policy, health reform, and Medicare. He is the author of The Political Life of Medicare and co-editor of The Social Medicine Reader, 3rd edition, which was published in 2019. His articles have appeared in a range of academic journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, American Journal of Public Health, Health Affairs, Journal of Law, Medicine, and Ethics, and Journal of Policy Analysis and Management.
Dr. Oberlander has commented on health care reform for a number of media outlets, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal,Los Angeles Times, the New York Review of Books, National Public Radio, the BBC, the Australian Broadcasting Company, CBS News, Politico, and PBS. Dr. Oberlander holds a PhD and MA in political science from Yale University, and a BA in political science from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
