Anna C. Mastroianni is Professor of Law at the University of Washington (UW) School of Law and Associate Director of UW’s Institute for Public Health Genetics. She also holds faculty appointments in the UW’s School of Public Health (Health Services) and School of Medicine (Bioethics & Humanities; Pediatrics). Before joining the UW faculty, she worked as a practicing health care attorney and served in several legal and governmental policy positions in Washington, D.C., including President Clinton’s Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments. Her widely cited scholarly work examines the intersection of law, bioethics, public health, and health policy, with emphasis on the legal and ethical challenges arising in research with pregnant women, the use of genetic technologies in public health, reproductive rights, and family building through assisted reproductive technologies. Professor Mastroianni is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is recognized for her contributions to health policy, law, and bioethics. She serves on national and international consensus, advisory, and oversight committees, including those at the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine and National Institutes of Health. Her education includes a BA (Spanish & Portuguese), BS (Economics), and JD from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MPH (Health Services) from the University of Washington.
